Farewell to 2007/2008 and the Premier Division then. Relegated after only two years and just the first of those was really successful, in our own terms at least. Stan Murdoch the manager was missing from his post from early on in the season - he had good reasons but that doesn't help the team unfortunately.
Some players were out of their depth at this level and there were too many injuries to important players and too many red cards. Even then, we might have just escaped the ultimate nightmare but for some truly dreadful performances in key matches against Auchinleck Talbot, Neilston and Cumnock especially.
So, it's farewell as well to Stan Murdoch and his assistant Willie Burns and we wish them good luck in the future.
Farewell also to Iain Banks, an outstanding goalkeeper, who has decided to spend more time with his employers and his airmiles; to Craig McClintock, a strong presence missing in midfield for most of the season, whose health and wellbeing is rightly much more important than playing football; to Graeme Gaffney who seeks a fresh challenge elsewhere; to Stephen Lowe who, had he stayed until the end of last season, would surely have won the Player of the Season award; to Colin 'Scifo' Allison who has moved on to Bo'ness United, and to Stephen McLadrigan who's away back to Rutherglen Glencairn after too short a stay. With the exception of the last-named, and he had other qualities, there's a lot of experience in that list and the new boss will do well to find adequate replacements. We wish him well.
